Activity 2 1/11/11

Describe (in your own words) the behavior and characteristics of electrons.
Electrons are complex particles that give off a negative charge. The amount of electrons a certain atom has is what helps determine the chemical properties of an element. The amount of electrons also influence if a certain atom/element is magnetic and how magnetic the atom/element is.  Electrons are located on the outer shells of atoms, they are bound to the nucleus; they help set stable energy levels keeping the nucleus from losing any protons or neutrons.  Electrons change their behavior when someone/something is watching them, just like people change when being watched. Electrons are able to split an atom in half, allowing an atom to go in two separate directions; making two new atoms. These new atoms then can bounce off of one another, allowing them to go in different directions.
