Activity 4 1/11/11 Water?

What elements make up water?
Hydrogen and oxygen are the two elements that make up water.

Is water an ionic compound or a covalent compound?
            Water is a covalent compound.

What is the shape of water?
Water has a bent shape. H-O-H

Why does water stick to itself?
Water sticks to itself because of one of water’s unique properties, cohension. The hydrogen bonds also helps the water molecules to stick to each other.

Why does water not stick to or mix with oil?
Water does not stick or mix with oil because the cohnesion forces are much stronger then the adhesive forces (which allows water to stick well with other things).
